Legal Services of Southern Missouri Appoints New Executive Director

LSSM

With a long-standing history of supporting civil legal rights, the organization aims to expand its capacity, advocacy, and outreach endeavors to ensure equal access to justice for all low-income and disadvantaged individuals and families across southern Missouri.

The Board of Directors of Legal Services of Southern Missouri (LSSM) is delighted to announce the selection of Steve Kellogg as its new Executive Director. With more than 26 years of legal experience, Mr. Kellogg’s appointment is a significant step towards advancing LSSM’s mission of delivering critically needed civil legal aid to low-income individuals and families across 43 counties in southern Missouri.

“I am honored to join Legal Services of Southern Missouri and to have the opportunity to work alongside such a talented and committed team,” said Mr. Kellogg. “I look forward to building on the organization’s rich history of providing legal aid to underserved communities and expanding our reach to even more people without access to justice.”

Mr. Kellogg began his career as a trial attorney with Thompson Coburn in St. Louis before starting his firm in Belleville, Illinois. After returning to Springfield, his hometown, Mr. Kellogg worked with the public defender’s office for 11 years and found his passion in public service work.

“As an attorney in the public defender’s office, I fell in love with the work and the clients. Public service can be invigorating and personally rewarding,” said Mr. Kellogg. “I know that our clients can, at times, be challenging. But there is nothing more gratifying, I believe, than when you secure a victory for your client, which is always a team effort and often changes their life in very substantial ways.”

As LSSM’s new Executive Director, Mr. Kellogg will oversee all aspects of the organization’s operations, including fundraising, strategic planning, and program development.

“We are thrilled to have Steve Kellogg join our team as Executive Director,” said LSSM Director of Development Whitney Williams. “His wealth of experience and passion for public service will be invaluable as we continue to provide high-quality legal services to those in need.”

Under Mr. Kellogg’s leadership, LSSM is poised to continue its mission of providing legal aid to underserved communities and expanding its reach to even more people without access to justice.
